Why do we like shinny things?

I took the original photo for this art piece at a fireworks display in Florida. It was spectacular! Yet, what are fireworks but a pretty light show in the sky. Why then is it so compelling? I'm not sure. However, I liked how this turned out so much I even have this canvas hung in my house.
